Why not try GOD?
You are surrounded every day with strain and stress that confront you in various forms and shapes. Beating the deadlines. Stretching the money to buy the shrinking bread. Marital problems. The rising crime wave. Tornados, floods, earthquakes. Wars and rumors of war. As a result many are succumbing to highblood pressure. Heart attacks and even suicide.
Solutions galore are offered to you on every side. Comedies which give you a hollow laugh. Expensive vacations which drive you deeper into economic dislocation. Stress pills and potions which may cause you certain side effects. Drowning your troubles in a bottle of wine which only leaves you with a terrible hangover.
After you’ve tried all these remedies and found to your dismay that they are merely ways of burying your head in the sand – but they really don’t give you a lasting solution to your attendance, singing of hymns Bible reading, fellowship with fellow believers and relationship with the Eternal, meditation and prayer – these can soothe your ruffled nerves better than any other remedies we know.
And speaking of prayer, here’s one I came across while searching at the internet last night which may calm you down better than pills. Would you like to try it?
“EASE THE POUNDING OF MY HEART BY THE QUIETING OF MY MIND. STEADY MY HURRIED PACE WITH A VISION OF THE ETERNAL REACH OF TIME. GIVE ME, AMID THE CONFUSION OF MY DAY, THE CALMNESS OF THE EVERLASTING HILLS. BREAK THE TENSIONS OF MY NERVES AND MUSCLES WITH THE SOOTHING MUSIC OF THE SINGING STREAMS THAT LIVE IN MY MEMORY. HELP ME TO KNOW THE MAGICAL RESTORING POWER OF SLEEP.
TEACH ME THE ART OF TAKING MINUTE VACATIONS… OF SLOWING DOWN TO LOOK AT A FLOWER, TO CHAT WITH A FRIEND, TO PAT A DOG, TO READ A FEW LINES FROM A GOOD BOOK. REMIND ME EACH DAY OF THE FABLE THAT THE RACE IS NOW ALWAYS TO THE SWIFT; THAT THERE IS MORE TO LIFE THAN MEASURING ITS SPEED.
LET ME LOOK UPWARD INTO THE BRANCHES OF THE TOWERING OAK AND KNOW THAT IT GREW GREAT AND STRONG BECAUSE IT GREW SLOWLY AND WELL. SLOW ME DOWN, LORD, AND INSPIRE ME TO SEND MY ROOTS DEEP INTO THE SOIL OF LIFE’S ENDURING VALUES THAT I MAY GROW TOWARD THE STARS OF MY GREATER DESTINY.”
As being an Asian, it seems naturally religious. When you are confronted by a stressful situation, why not try God this time?
